Tokyo [Japan], August 10 (ANI): The torch relay for the Tokyo Paralympics will not take place on public roads for August 20-24 legs in Tokyo due to the COVID-19 situation, the metropolitan government said on Tuesday.
In the run-up to the Opening Ceremony, the Paralympic Games decided to host a series of flame festivals for the Paralympic Torch Relay. Spanning across all of Japan's 43 prefectures as well as in Stoke Mandeville in the United Kingdom - the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement - the flame will be brought together to create a single flame at a Flame Gathering Event in Tokyo on 20 August.
The relay for the Paralympics in the Japanese capital planned to have 700 runners tour a course of around 35 kilometers. The flame gathering events at the metropolitan government's building, which put together flames collected in 62 municipalities in the capital, will be held without spectators.
"The relay was scheduled to visit places of interest in respective regions and there were lots of runners looking forward to the event, so it is extremely disappointing," Kyodo News quoted a metropolitan government official as a saying. The Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5.
The Paralympic flame will also tour Shizuoka, Chiba and Saitama before the climax of the Paralympic Torch Relay from 17 August to 24 August; the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
To mark the start of the Paralympic Games, the three Agitos - the symbol of the Paralympic Games - will be in full display at the Odaiba Marine Park off the shores off Tokyo Bay. (ANI)

A look at T20WC winning skipper Suryakumar's Ahmedabad story

Grinding out in his 20s in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) and domestic cricket for Mumbai, Suryakumar struggled to make it to Team India, watching many of his peers get a national cap. Despite a purple patch in the IPL from 2018-2020, which saw him score 400-500 runs consistently, India's very own 'Mr 360' struggled to catch selectors' attention. But when he finally did at the age of 30, his next five years saw him live out a decade worthy of career highs and lows, making him one of the most intriguing figures of Indian cricket.

"Filling Jadeja's void well": Gavaskar hails Axar's catch

While it was Sanju Samson's magnificent 89, which continued a redemption, 'Starboy' Jacob Bethell's counter-attacking century in a tense 254 run chase and Jasprit Bumrah's economical spell of 1/33 that made headlines, it was also Axar's two incredible catches which played a massive role in sealing India's win. The first one was a superb grab to dismiss England skipper Harry Brook while running back, and the other one was a relay catch involving all-rounder Shivam Dube to remove Will Jacks, breaking a raging 77-run stand for the fifth wicket between him and Bethell.
