Swiss star Federer surges to third spot
Johannesburg [South Africa], July 17 (ANI):19-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has moved up two places to the third spot in the latest ATP Tour rankings released on Monday after clinching his record eighth Wimbledon title. Federer outclassed Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in his 11th final at the All England Club that lasted for one hour and 37 minutes on the Centre Court on Sunday to win his 19th Grand Slam title. It was for the first time that the third-seeded Swiss superstar won the Wimbledon title without dropping a set. The victory makes Federer the oldest man to win at the All England Club in the Open era, which began in 1968. Meanwhile, British tennis maestro Andy Murray, who made a quarter-final exit at Wimbledon after going down against America's Sam Querrey, continued to remain at top spot ahead of 15-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, Sport24 reported. The world's top 10 are: 1. Andy Murray 2. Rafael Nadal 3. Roger Federer 4. Novak Djokovic 5. Stan Wawrinka 6. Marin Cilic 7. Dominic Thiem 8. Kei Nishikori 9. Milos Raonic 10. Grigor Dimitrov.(ANI)
