Sport Minister Rathore hails Khelo India School Games

New Delhi [India], Feb 8 (ANI): Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore said on Thursday hailed the inaugural edition of the Khelo India School Games saying it was as grand as any international event.

"I have played a lot of international tournaments but the organisation and broadcast of Khelo India School Games was no less than an international event," Rathore told reporters on the concluding day of the games.

The first Khelo India School Games, which are a part of the 'Khelo India' programme concluded in New Delhi today.

Sports powerhouse Haryana topped the overall medal tally with 38 gold medals.

Rathore said that the Khelo India School Games will be organised every year now and in a better way.

The government's investment on this platform has given us immense satisfaction. I think the states should also start a healthy rivalry between them. They should invest in their young players and should encourage them," the 2004 Olympics silver medallist said.

The 'Khelo India' has been introduced by the Sports Ministry of India to revive the sports culture in the country at the grassroots level and make India a sporting nation. (ANI)
