Jakarta [Indonesia], August 28 (ANI): Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, who bagged the first-ever Asian Games silver medal for India in the women's singles badminton event of the Asian Games, has said that she should not be sad about not finishing on top of the podium as the overall tournament had been quite fantastic for her.
The Rio Olympics bronze-medallist had settled for the silver after slumping to a 13-21, 16-21 defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei player Tai Tzu Ying in the finals of the prestigious tournament.
Speaking to ANI, Sindhu said, "There were matches in the tournament where I was about to lose but I fought back and won. I shouldn't be sad for not winning the gold as the overall competition was fantastic."
"It was a proud moment for the country having two Indians on the podium," she added.
Reflecting on her defeat in the finals, Sindhu said that giving away the initial lead to her opponent was one of the mistakes she committed during the match, pointing out that a little more patience would have changed the results.
"I tend to do some mistakes here and there and I gave her a lead from the starting. I think if I had played patiently may be it might have been a bit different. But definitely, I will come back stronger," she said.
PV Ramana, the father of Sindhu, expressed delight over her daughter's achievement in the prestigious quadrennial tournament. He said that he is happy with Sindhu's performance and underscored that she would continue to work hard and bring glory to the country.
"Sindhu has lost the title to world number one. I am happy with her performance, she gave a tough fight. There were certain weak points in the final match. The coach will be there to work on them. In the future tournaments, she will work hard to play well and get a good name for the country," he added.
India's total medal tally in the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games now stands at 49-- nine gold, 18 silver and 22 bronze. (ANI)
