Sangram Dahiya bursting with pride post double trap silver at ISSF WC Final

New Delhi [India], Oct 27 (ANI): After lifting the silver medal in the men's double trap of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final in the national capital, India's Sangram Dahiya on Friday said that he is bursting with pride to be able to perform well when it was most expected from him.

Ecstatic to win the medal, Dahiya said, "This was amazing. I am really happy that this happened in New Delhi. I am extremely proud of myself that I could actually perform and deliver when there is so much hope from me. This being the last World Cup of double trap, this was the swansong that I wanted to leave behind."

He further insisted that he is now focussing on next year's Commonwealth Games.

"Next year, my immediate goal, which I am really focused upon is Commonwealth Games," he said.

The 28-year-old gave a tough competition to Hu Binyuan of China before eventually finishing second to pick up silver here on day four at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Dahiya shot 76 out of 80 targets, three behind gold-medallist Hu Binyuan (79), who set a new world record.

Meanwhile, Italy's Davide Gasparini (56) picked up bronze after scoring 56 points.

By securing his first World Cup medal, Dahiya has pushed India's medal tally to three in the tournament so far.

World number one Ankur Mittal, another Indian in fray, finished at the fourth spot in the final with a score of 45 points.

Earlier in the day, Amanpreet Singh bagged the bronze medal in the men's 50m pistol event.

Amanpreet posted a score of 202.2 in the finals to finish behind Serbia's Damir Mikec (229.3) and Oleh Omelchuk (228), who picked up gold and silver respectively.

Earlier, ace shooters Jitu and Heena Sidhu kicked off India's campaign in the tournament on a positive note as they struck gold in the 10m mixed team air pistol event on the opening day on Tuesday. (ANI)
