Rory McIlroy's bursting with confidence ahead of Masters

Johannesburg [South Africa], March 20 (ANI): A week after clinching a win at Arnold Palmer Invitational, Northern-Irish golfer Rory McIlroy has said that he is boosting with confidence ahead of 2018 Masters Tournament, beginning April 5 at Augusta National Golf Club.

The 28-year-old picked up his first victory since September 2016 after he carded an eight-under-par 64 to finish on 18 under, three ahead of Bryson DeChambeau at Bay Hill to win Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Reflecting on the same, McIlroy said that he is bursting with pride following his win, adding that he had never doubted his ability despite going 26 straight starts without a triumph.

"It's huge. The shots that I was able to hit under pressure coming down the stretch. All these little barriers that you have to overcome, whether it is physical or mental. It's huge for my confidence going into the next few weeks," Sport24 quoted McIlroy, as saying.

McIlroy believes that the victory has also provided him with a major boost going into the Masters tournament.

"I kept saying I didn't need a win going into Augusta to feel like I had a chance, I just wanted to see signs of good golf, and thankfully I've been able to get both. I've always believed in myself and I know that me being 100 percent healthy is good enough to not just win on the PGA Tour, but win a lot," McIlroy said.

The four-time major winner is bidding to complete a career Grand Slam at Augusta National. He clinched his last victory on September 25, 2016, the day that Arnold Palmer died.(ANI)
