Trivandrum [Kerala], December 13 (ANI): Punjab's Anjum Moudgil stole the limelight with a double gold effort on the opening day of the 61st National Shooting Championship for Rifle and Pistol events, here at the National Games Shooting Range.

Trivandrum [Kerala], December 13 (ANI): Punjab's Anjum Moudgil stole the limelight with a double gold effort on the opening day of the 61st National Shooting Championship for Rifle and Pistol events, here at the National Games Shooting Range.

Fresh from winning a bronze and team silver at the recently concluded Commonwealth Shooting Championships and 10th Asian Airgun respectively, the talented rifle shooter won the women's 50m Rifle Prone individual gold with a classy 624.8 score.

She finished well ahead of the experienced former world champion in Prone, Tejaswini Sawant of Maharashtra, who ended with a score of 620.7 after 60 shots.

The bronze went to Elizabeth Susan Koshy of Kerala who shot 618.8.

Anjum's effort led to her Punjab team comprising of Chahat Deep Kaur and Jasleen Kaur winning the team gold in the event with a combined score of 1853.9.

The other star of the day was Jammu and Kashmir's Shreya Saksena who won the Junior Women's, Women's Civilian and Junior Women's Civilian individual golds in 50m Rifle Prone.

She shot a winning score of 617.0.

The state of Maharashtra also had a bright start with three gold medals in the same three team events.

A total of 4800 men and women shooters from across the country are participating in the 61st NSCC. (ANI)
