Panaji (Goa)[India], October 19 (ANI): The 24th edition of National Para Swimming Championship started on October 19 and will continue till October 22 at the Olympic Swimming Pool in Panaji, Goa.
The event has been organized by the Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, in association with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and the Goa Paralympic Association.
The National Para Swimming Championship promises to bring together over 700 participants, including para swimmers, coaches, officials, and support staff from over 27 states and union territories across India, a release said.
Athletes will showcase their exceptional talent and resilience, competing in a wide range of events that celebrate both the spirit of sportsmanship and the abilities of persons with disabilities.
This championship offers a platform for India's talented para swimmers to perform on a national stage, with their performances paving the way for potential future international participation, including upcoming major events like the World Para Swimming Championships, the release added.
Speaking about the event, Guruprasad R Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Government of Goa, sadi they are honoured to host this prestigious event and witness the incredible determination and achievements of para swimmers. "This championship underscores our commitment to empowering athletes with disabilities and providing them with the opportunities they deserve." (ANI)
