Murray ready to face Djokovic in ATP Tour Finals summit showdown
Johannesburg [South Africa], Nov. 17 (ANI): British ace Andy Murray is all set for the mouthwatering prospect of facing Novak Djokovic in the summit showdown of the ATP Tour Finals with the numero one ranking on the line. World No. 2 Djokovic has qualified for the last four of the tournament courtesy his win in the first two group matches at the London's O2 Arena and Murray is also sure of making it to the last four with two victories going into his last match against Stan Wawrinka scheduled for tomorrow. If both Murray and Djokovic finish at the top of their groups, their clash in the semis would not take place and both would only meet in the finals, scheduled for Sunday. "It could come down to a match between me and Novak. Who knows what's going to happen the next few days," Murray was quoted as saying by Sport24. "For me and I'm sure for Novak, both of our goals would be to try to win the event. For him, whether that's by beating me, someone else, or for me if it's winning against Novak or another player, it doesn't change for us as players," she added. The newly crowned world number one, however, said that for the tournament, for everyone interested in tennis, the Djokovic-Murray clash would probably be the perfect way to finish the year. The Briton, who is on a 21-match winning streak that has brought him four successive titles which ultimately won him the number one spot in the ATP Rankings, has never reached the final of the Tour Finals. The 29-year-old, however, believes the prize on offer provides all the motivation he needs to play through the pain. "I'm a bit tired obviously. But you tend to feel it more the following day, sort of in terms like stiffness and soreness in the body," Murray said. "Just from my side, concentrate on trying to win my own matches, get through as many as I can, make it as tough as possible for Novak to jump me," he added. (ANI)
