Johannesburg [South Africa], May 14 (ANI): Four-time world champions Lewis Hamilton has revealed that even the Mercedes' top bosses want to see his contract extension.
Though the British driver's current contract set to expire at the end of the 2018 season, Hamilton had said that he is not interest in joining any other team and is committed to extend his stint at Brackley beyond the end of the season.
Earlier, Mercedes and Hamilton had entered negotiations over a new contract, which would keep the driver at the team until 2021.
And now Hamilton confirmed that he and the Silver Arrows are not far away from finalizing things, while adding that even the top hierarch of the team want him to stay.
"We are not far from finalising things. It will hopefully happen in the near future. All the bosses are here and there is not a single person in the upper hierarchy of the team who has doubts, as far as I can tell," Sport24 quoted the British driver as saying.
Echoing similar views, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted that neither his team wants to lose Hamiliton, nor he wants to leave the team.
"Of course we do not want to lose him, but I also believe that he doesn't want to go somewhere else. Everything is ok. We've just had other priorities in recent weeks. We wanted to take care of the racing car.The ink is almost dry, and when it is, we'll let you know," Wolff said.
Hamilton is currently standing at the top spot in the drivers' championship, maintaining a lead of just four points over Vettel. (ANI)
