Jhajjar (Haryana) [India], October 5 (ANI): After casting his vote in the Haryana elections, Dronacharya awardee Mahavir Singh Phogat heaped praise on Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and stated that the party has done a lot of work in the state for last 10 years.
On Saturday, Mahavir Singh Phogat arrived at a polling station in Jhajjar to cast his vote for the 2024 Haryana elections.
"In the last 10 years, poor people have been given houses, farmers have been given compensation, and the last 10 years of the BJP government have been good for the state," he said
Phogat said the decision of his neice Vinesh to enter politics was completely her own.
"After her Olympic stint, I had said the whole family would convince her to prepare for the 2028 Olympics, she went ahead and announced she would compete till the 2032 Olympics. I was to go receive her at the airport when she returned, but she made a social media post because of which I did not feel like going anymore. Deepender Hooda took my place there. That is when politics began... Her decision to enter politics is completely her own, we have nothing to do with it... I did my part in her journey, rest is up to her," Mahavir Phogat said while speaking to ANI.
Earlier, after casting her vote in the Haryana elections, Congress candidate from Julana Assembly Constituency Vinesh Phogat said today is a huge festival and it's a very big day people of the state. On Saturday, Phogat arrived at a polling station in Charkhi Dadri to cast her vote for Haryana elections.
"It is a huge festival for Haryana and a very big day for the people of the state. I am making an appeal to the people of the state to come out and cast their votes. 10 years ago, when Bhupinder Hooda was the CM, the level of sports in the state was really good. It is not in my hands (to become a minister), it is in the hands of the high command..." Vinesh Phogat told ANI.
"Vote for the party that works for rights of women, you all know which party I am speaking of. Hope of victory is always there, today is the day to vote. People have not forgotten what the BJP did to the farmers and others," she added.
This election is a high-stakes battle as the BJP is eyeing a third straight term to power in the state, the Congress party is aiming to wrest back power riding on anti-incumbency, and issues of farmer protests and wrestler protests. (ANI)
