It was tough but I never gave up: Apurvi Chandela post record breaking gold in WC

New Delhi [India], Feb 23 (ANI): Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela, who smashed the world record to clinch a gold medal in the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup, believes that the top podium finish is the result of her never-say-die attitude.
According to the 26-year-old, the journey was tough for her but she never gave up practicing. Also, she said shooting experiences in foreign events helped her to succeed in the World Cup.
“It's been a bit tough but I've been practicing and not giving up. I am glad I got the result today. Last month, I won a gold in Austria and I gained confidence from there. I am glad that I could convert that into my strength and do well here,” Chandela told ANI.
The 2018 Asian Games Bronze medallist rated her performance as best in the final stage while adding that overall, gold in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games was important for her.
“In terms of performance in the final stage, it was best but otherwise even Glasgow 2014 was important for me,” she said.
Chandela hoped that she would continue with her good run in the 202 Tokyo Olympics, as well.
“I look forward to doing well and hopefully that would convert into a medal. I executed my technique well today and the medal is just the outcome of that. I will do the same in Tokyo, as well” she said.

She also dedicated her World Cup gold medal to those who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack.
“I would like to dedicate this to martyrs. It was very sad that happened,” she added.
When asked for her opinion on the degrading sporting ties with Pakistan in the wake of the Pulwama attack
“In that sense, the ISSF, government and federations are making the good call and we as sports people should back the country and their decisions. Rest, we need to focus on our game, "Chandela said.
Earlier today, Chandela scored a total of 252.9 points to break the world record and win a gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle event of the shooting World Cup. (ANI)
