Kathmandu [Nepal], April 24 (ANI): India have clinched the title of team champion in the 8th series of South Asian Judo Championship here last evening.

In the men's team category, India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 3-2 in the finals to claim the title. Under the women's team category, India thrashed hosts Nepal 5-0 to seal the title.

India ended their campaign in the tournament with a total of 12 Gold medals and three Bronze medals.

"The Asian Games are ahead of us which is to be held in Indonesia, we are now giving all our strength for it. We will be practicing hard and well for it," gold-medallist Anita Chanu told ANI.

In the event which was held in Army Physical Training Center, Lagankhel, Nepal stood second with two Gold medals, seven Silver and 13 Bronze medals in total.

Pakistan finished at the third spot with two Gold, four Silver and three Bronze medals.

While Sri Lanka bagged three Silver and six Bronze, Bangladesh took away two Silver and two Bronze. Bhutan, on the other hand, settled for just one Bronze medal this year.

A total of 102 players from six nations have contested in the three-day event.

The next series of the event will be held in Bangladesh. The South Asian Judo Federation's meeting fixed Bangladesh as host nation for the 2020 championship.(ANI)
