Happy to clinch a medal for India at ISSF WC Final: Amanpreet Singh

New Delhi [India], Oct 27 (ANI): Indian shooter Amanpreet Singh, who clinched bronze in the men's 50m pistol event of the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final in the national capital, on Friday expressed his delight to pick the medal for the country.

Amanpreet shot a score of 202.2 in the finals to finish behind Serbia's Damir Mikec (229.3) and Oleh Omelchuk (228), who picked up gold and silver respectively.

Reflecting on the finals, Amanpreet admitted that although he had to settle for the bronze, he was happy that he at least managed to add a medal to India's tally.

"The pressure in the finals is very different. However, I am feeling extremely happy after winning the medal. Whatever medal it is, at least we have managed to win a medal for our country. So, I am happy with that" Amanpreet told ANI.

Meanwhile, ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai eliminated from the men's 50m pistol event after finishing at seventh spot.

Commenting on the same, Amanpreet said, "Jitu performed well in qualification. I didn't expect him to finish at the seventh spot because he has a lot of experience at least more than me. But we have been benefitted with the venue. If we go to another country, it takes time to adjust as the weather is also different there. As we have been training here for quite some time now, so we have been benefitted from the same," he said.

When quizzed about his chances of clinching a medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Amanpreet said, "The victory is a big motivation for me that if I can win medal in this competition then I can definitely perform well in that as well."

In the qualifying round, Amanpreet had qualified in seventh spot shooting 545 out of 600 while Jitu shot 561 to qualify in fourth position.

Earlier in the Day Four of the tournament, Sangram Dahiya also handed India a silver medal after shooting 76 out of 80 targets in men's double trap event. (ANI)
