East Zone Sub-Junior Boxing Championship

Guwahati (Assam) [India], Mar 28 (ANI): There is no dearth of talent in sports when it comes to the youth of the northeast region whose energy and talent in the field of sport are commendable.
With an aim to provide a platform to these budding players, the 1st boxing federation of India (BFI), east zone sub-junior boys and girls boxing championship, 2019 was successfully conducted in Probin Gogoi Indoor stadium in Golaghat district of Assam.
The championship was held under the aegis of all Assam Amateur Boxing Association and it saw young boxers from almost all the states of the region.
India is the hub of sports talent. The contribution of the northeast region of the country in the field of sports is exemplary as it has brought innumerable laurels.
The region is a powerhouse of boxing talent and has given the country some of the best sparring sportspersons.
Inspired by boxing sensation Mary Kom herself, many new generation boxers are taking baby steps to hone their skills to bring medals at the national and international platforms.
Recently, with an aim to provide a platform to the young talent, the 1st Boxing Federation of India (BFI), East Zone Sub-Junior Boys & Girls Boxing Championship, 2019 was successfully held at Probin Gogoi Indoor stadium, Golaghat District of Assam.
Organised by Golaghat District Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of All Assam Amateur Boxing Association, recognised by BFI and Indian Olympic Association, the championship saw young pugilists from Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim giving each other a tough fight.
“If Sub Junior Boxing Champ is not organised in the village, district, and state level, then the country will not get trained champions. Sub Junior Championships help to nurture young talent at the initial stage and prepare them for higher level tournaments,” said Ashit Banerjee, President, Boxing Federation, East Zone & West Bengal Amateur Boxing Association.
During the championship, the boxing ring felt the heat as the young boxers dodged punches giving each other a cut-throat competition.
A total of 80 young players from different states participated in the championship among which, Assam emerged as a champion of the tournament in the finals.
It is worth noting that all the winners in each category (boys & girls) will now compete in the upcoming National Zonal Championship and they are now selected for the India Sub-Junior National Camp.
“I am happy to have able to play this tournament. Winning a gold medal in the tournament adds to m my happiness. The tournament was very tough but I gave my best to win the match,” said Isha Das, one of the participants.
The main objective of organising this kind of the championship is to boost the sporting spirit of the budding talents and to provide a platform to the deserving players of the region.
Organising such events will enhance the sporting skills of the players and it will go a long way in keeping the Indian sports culture intact. (ANI)
