CWG '18: It's Sindhu vs Saina in all-Indian final

Gold Coast [Australia], April 14 (ANI): Olympic medallists PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have set up a gold-medal match against each other after booking their places in the finals of women's singles event at the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games here on Saturday.

Gold Coast [Australia], April 14 (ANI): Olympic medallists PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have set up a gold-medal match against each other after booking their places in the finals of women's singles event at the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games here on Saturday.

On the 11th day of the Games, the 22-year-old from Hyderabad produced a rich vein of form as she stunned her Canadian opponent Michelle Li 21-18, 21-8 in a one-sided semi-final clash that lasted a little more than half an hour.

With the win, Sindhu has now set up an all-India clash against her fellow countrywoman Nehwal in the summit showdown.

After comfortably winning the first game, Nehwal went down in the second before she bounced back strongly to post 21-14, 18-21, 21-17 win over Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in a thrilling last-four clash that lasted one hour and eight minutes at the Carrara Sports Arena.

In men's singles event, world number one Kidambi Srikanth also stormed into the finals after easing past Rajiv Ouseph of England 21-10, 21-17 in a semi-final clash that lasted 31 minutes.

Srikanth will now lock horns with Chong Wei Lee in gold-match fixture.

Meanwhile, it was curtains down for HS Prannoy in the Games after he slumped to defeat at the hands of Wei Lee in their last-four clash.The Indian suffered 16-21, 21-9, 14-21 defeat to his Malaysian opponent to bow out of the prestigious quadrennial event.

The Indian pair of N. Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also crashed out of the Games after going down against Vivian Hoo and Mei Kuan Chow of Malaysia 21-17, 15-21, 4-21 in the women's doubles clash.

India are currently standing at the third spot in the Games with a total of 47 medals, comprising of including 20 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze.(ANI)
