Bijapur Police organises commemoration run on Martyrs' Day

Bijapur (Chattisgarh) [India], Oct 21 (ANI): Bijapur Police on Saturday organised a 12km commemoration run on the eve of Martyrs' Day in the district headquarter.
The cross country run was organised to pay homage to martyrs who laid down their lives to establish peace in the region.
More than 2000 participants from different parts of India like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh etc. had gathered to support the initiative.
Inspector General of Police Vivekanand Sinha participated in the run and congratulated Bijapur Police for the same.
"Sports is one of the key mediums to develop connections between aboriginals and the mainstream society and that such similar programs will be organised in Bastar in future," Sinha said.
He also appealed the misguided people to join the mainstream society by telling them how important their democratic right to vote is. He was confident that such initiatives of community policing would go a long way in establishing peace and strengthening the democratic process.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ratan Lal Dangi said, "The forces will continue to work with positive efforts to bring transformations in the region. The perspective of policing is changing day by day in Bijapur and such initiatives are strengthening the trust among people and forces."
The event started at the Martyrs Gate Avapally T-point where all the guests paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to ensure protection and construction of a road from Bijapur to Basaguda. The 12 km run culminated at Martyrs memorial in Bijapur with Ghat area, riverines, canals etc on the way.
This was the best time to conduct the run and there could not have been a better route to choose, said Superintendent of police Bijapur, Mohit Garg.
The run is being widely appreciated not just by his seniors but also by the people of Bijapur. In order to build and enhance outreach to people, programs like these are being organized by the district police under his initiative 'Manva Puna Bijapur'- Our Changing Bijapur (in Gondi, the local tribal dialect), he added.
As far as results of the event are concerned, in men's category, Yudhistir Sahu of Durg C.G, Rahul Kumar of Bardhman W.B. and Mangi Ram of Jagdalpur C.G. topped the spots, winning trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 21000, Rs. 15000, Rs. 10000, respectively.
In women's category, Tejeshwari Sahu of Balod C.G., Priyankar Nishad of Balod C.G and Savita Markam of Kondagaon C.G. topped the spots.
There was a 3 km run organised for children (boys and girls categories between 12-16 years) with trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000 and Rs.1500, respectively. The event also celebrated the runners who ran barefoot rewarding top 10 with Rs.1000 each.
Top 10 runners in all categories were also awarded consolation cash prize of Rs. 500 each.
The event witnessed presence of sports celebrities like Padma Shree awardee Dharampal Saini, Karate Champion Ambar Singh Bharadwaj, Weightlifter Rustam Sarang, Archer Teklal Kurre, Mountaineer Naina Singh Dhakad, Wooden artist Ajay Mandavi and other senior officers of Police, Revenue, Forest and Central Reserve Police Force.
This is not the first time when Bijapur Poice has organised such outreach programs under the banner Manva Puna Bijapur.
In August, they had organised an education-cum awareness trip for more than 300 students from ultra-naxal areas. That initiative also received critical acclaim from all sections of society. Bijapur also became the first Left-Wing Extremism affected district in India to be awarded ISO 9001 Certificate for two Police Stations after they were revamped and made more accessible for people.
