BCCI should not confront CoA: Ex-cricketer Chetan Chauhan

New Delhi [India], March 9 (ANI): In the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) versus Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials' battle, former cricketer Chetan Chauhan has advised the latter to not go into a confrontation with the committee.

In the recent chapter of the battle, the CoA, in its seventh status report, has sought the removal of board's office bearers.

"The Supreme Court is the highest legal body in the country. It will be better if BCCI does not go into any confrontation and follow the recommendations of the Lodha Committee," Chauhan told reporters on the sidelines of the Blind Cricket Conclave.

In its seventh status report to the apex court, the two-member CoA, comprising of Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji, cited that the term of office of the present office-bearers expired on March 1, 2018, according to the BCCI's existing Constitution.

The CoA further pointed out that Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla also outlived his tenure.

Reacting, Chauhan said, "In my personal opinion, when the Lodha Committee was appointed by the Supreme Court. For some reason or the other, the BCCI did not join the meetings of the committee. I think at that time if the BCCI had put across their point of view. When these recommendations were discussed, that was the right time, where some kind of amendments could have been made."

The CoA running the BCCI recently also held back pacer Mohammed Shami's contract after his wife, Hasin Jahan accused him of domestic violence.

The committee which announced new player contracts on behalf of the BCCI said that it will verify facts before taking a call on Shami's new contract.

Commenting on it, Chauhan said, "I think this is not the best thing. This is a very personal matter and has nothing to do with cricket."

"The good thing is they have not cancelled the contract and only withheld it. I think the contract should go on because as far as the cricket ability is concerned there is nothing to do with it. And also he has not been pronounced guilty by the court," he added. (ANI)
