Australian Open: Paes-Hingis knock out of mixed doubles quarters

Melbourne [Australia], Jan.26 (ANI):Indian tennis ace Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis crashed out of the season-opening Australian Open after suffering straight-sets defeat in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles event here on Thursday.

Melbourne [Australia], Jan.26 (ANI):Indian tennis ace Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis crashed out of the season-opening Australian Open after suffering straight-sets defeat in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles event here on Thursday. The unseeded Indo-Swiss pair went down at the hands of local pair of Sam Groth and Samantha Stosur 3-6, 2-6 in a last-four contest that lasted about an hour on Margaret Court Arena. The Australian pair remained in possession throughout the match, breaking serve of Paes and Hingis in the fifth game before clinching the opening set with another service break. In the second set, the Indo-Swiss pair were 2-5 down when Hingis served only to be broken by Groth and Stosur, who sealed the game comfortably. Groth and Stosur will now take on the second seeded pair of India's Sania Mirza and Croatian Ivan Dodig for a place in the semi-finals. (ANI)
