Asian Games: Sindhu bags historic silver in women's singles

Jakarta [Indonesia], August 28 (ANI): Ace shuttler PV Sindhu on Tuesday clinched a historic silver medal in Women's Singles Badminton event as she became the first Indian to finish second on the podium in the Asian Games.
The 23-year-old went down 13-21, 16-21 against Chinese Taipei player Tai Tzu Ying in the final clash that lasted 34 minutes.
Sindhu, who had thrashed Tzu Ying in the pre-quarters of the Rio Olympics, failed to replicate the magic this time and had to settle for silver at the event.
The Chinese Taipei player, who is widely famous for her deceptive game, had earlier kicked-out the Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal from the ongoing tournament after she registered a dominating 21-17, 21-14 win in the semi-final round of the event.
Earlier this month, the Olympic bronze-medalist had to settle for a second consecutive silver in Badminton World Championship after losing to Spanish shuttler Carolina Marin in the final of the tournament.
In archery, India bagged a silver medal in Men's Compound Team event in a shoot-off round after they played a 229-229 draw against Korea in the final match.
After claiming the first set 60-56, India conceded a 54-58 defeat to the Korean side. Making a strong comeback the Indian side won the third set 58-56 but slumped to a 57-59 loss in the fourth set, resulting in a shoot-off.
The national side missed the yellow metal as they failed to capitalize in the shoot-off round.
India's total medal tally in the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games now stands at 44- eight gold, sixteen silver and twenty bronze. (ANI)
