Jakarta [Indonesia], August 20 (ANI): Indian men's badminton team bowed out of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games after suffering a 1-3 loss against hosts Indonesia in the quarterfinal match of the tournament here on Monday.
Except for HS Prannoy, no other Indian shuttler could manage to register a win over their Indonesian counterparts.
In the first men's singles match, star Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth slumped to a 21-23, 22-20, 10-21 defeat against Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka in an absolutely thrilling contest.
In men's doubles match, Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwik Rankireddy lost 21-19, 19-21, 16-21 to the Indonesian duo of Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamujlo conceding a 2-0 lead to their opponents.
Meanwhile, Prannoy's 21-15, 19-21, 21-19 victory over Christie Jonatan came as a relief as the Indian team finally opened their account in the event.
India was in a do or die situation when they headed into the fourth clash of the event, which took place between the India pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy, and Indonesian duo of Muhammad Ardianto and Fajar Alfian.
The Indian shuttlers lost the must-win match 14-21, 18-21 which led to team's exit from the event.
Earlier, Indian women's badminton team had also lost their quarterfinal clash 1-3 against the Japanese side to crash out of the competition.
However, Indian hopes of an Asian Games medal in badminton are still alive as individual events are yet to begin.
While men's singles badminton event is slated to be held from August 23, women's individual clashes will begin from August 24. (ANI)
