AIBA Women's World Championships registers highest-ever participation

New Delhi [India], Nov 05 (ANI): Close to 300 boxers from 70 countries are set to participate in the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) Women's World Championships, registering the highest participation for the competition so far.

New Delhi [India], Nov 05 (ANI): Close to 300 boxers from 70 countries are set to participate in the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) Women's World Championships, registering the highest participation for the competition so far.
Boxers from 16 countries including Germany, USA, England, Ukraine, Panama, Australia, Thailand, Bulgaria, Somalia have already arrived in Delhi to get acclimatized to the Indian conditions, with the remainder of the participants set to arrive in the coming days.
The tournament will be held from November 15 to 24.
Among the boxers that will be most watched apart from India's Mary Kom, who is seeking her sixth world champion title, include Italy's Alessia Mesiano, who will be the standout woman in feather weight category.
The Italian will look to repeat her gold medal-winning performance in the 2016 edition of the tournament once again.
Kazakhstan's Nazyum Kyzaiba, with a gold medal in the 2016 championships, will give a good fight to retain it as she will take to the ring in the 51Kg category.
The Indian boxing enthusiasts will have a host of other talents with international pedigree to watch in action across the 10 categories.
Boxers like 2018 Commonwealth Games medalist Australian Kaye Scott, Peamwillai Laopeam from Thailand and Russia's Rio Olympic bronze medalist Anastasia Beliakova will be on display in the 10-day championships.
Some of the others to watch out for are bronze medal-winning Olympians Nouchka Fontjin from the Netherlands and Ingrit Valencia Victory from Columbia, while, Finland's Mira Potkonen will be keen to add to her silver medal from the Rio Olympics. (ANI)
