Madrid top of La Liga table post narrow win over Athletic Bilbao
Madrid [Spain], Oct.24 (ANI): Substitute Alvaro Morata netted a late goal as Real Madrid earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in their La Liga clash at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium here on Monday. The victory also saw the Zinedine Zidane-led side climb to the top spot,goal.com reported. The match started on a positive note for Madrid, with Karim Benzema putting his side ahead in the seventh minute of the clash after an impressive run and cut-back from midfielder Isco. However, Athletic Bilbao soon cancelled out Madrid's opener when Sabin Merino struck an equalizer in the 27th minute to end the first half at 1-1. After Madrid had squandered several chances to retake the lead in the second half, they appeared to settle with their third successive league draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, something which last happened in 1969-70. The former Juventus, however, pulled one back for the hosts just seven minutes prior to the final whistle to ensure his side seal a victory. Zidane's side, who have won six out of nine La Liga matches they have played so far, will next lock horns with Alaves on Saturday. (ANI)

With this win, NZ has sealed their final spot and will play either India or England, who will clash on Thursday at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
