London [U.K], Feb.27 (ANI): Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck two goals, including a winner with three minutes remaining, as Manchester United sealed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton to lift EFL Cup here at the Wembley Stadium last evening. Ibrahimovic put his side ahead with an impressive free-kick in the 19th minute of the match before Jesse Lingard doubled their lead by finding the bottom right corner in the 38th minute. Subsequently, Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini pulled back one goal for his side in first-half stoppage time, which followed his fifth goal in three Saints matches with a magnificent finish in the 48th minute,goal.com reported. Although Southampton were the better side for most of this final match, they were left heartbroken by 35-year-old Ibrahimovic when he took his tally to 26 goals this season by scoring the winner for United just three minutes before the full time . With the win, United have now won the tournament on five occasions, a record bettered only by Liverpool. Meanwhile, the win also gave manager Jose Mourinho his first success since summer appointment and his fourth overall victory in the competition. (ANI)
