7th Junior Women's Hockey C'ship: Uttar Pradesh thrash Mumbai 7-1
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 5 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Hockey produced a superlative performance as they thrashed The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd 7-1 in Pool A clash at the 7th Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Women) 'A' Division here on Friday. The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd were the first to strike, Resham Mahadik scoring in the 2nd minute to give them the lead. From there though Uttar Pradesh Hockey seized the initiative and rode on Sonal Tiwari's four quartet (7', 15', 37', 51') and Mumtaz Khan's brace (17', 32') to take a well deserved victory. Meanwhile, Hockey Patiala and Hockey Chandigarh played out an entertaining and toughly contested 1-1 draw in Pool A. After a goal less first half, Mitali opened the scoring for Hockey Patiala with a well taken goal in the 39th minute. Hockey Patiala held on to the lead for a period of the game, but in the end their resistance was broken, when Kirandeep Kaur equalised for Hockey Chandigarh with a penalty corner conversion in the 56th minute. A lack of clear cut opportunities for either team meant they split the points. In Pool C's opening game of the day, Hockey Karnataka beat Hockey Coorg 6-0. U Shalini was the star of the game, scoring a hat trick (4', 5', 51') for Hockey Karnataka. Sports Authority of India put in a superlative performance to beat Delhi Hockey 7-0 in their Pool C game. A brace each by Lalremsiami Zote (5', 69') and Anu Raj (34', 62') gave Sports Authority of India a comfortable victory. In Pool D, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Hockey Maharashtra 8-0. A hat trick for captain Karishma Singh (46, 51', 65') and a brace by Sadhna Sengar (59', 61') capped off a clinical performance that gave Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy the three points. (ANI)
