Sub-Jr Women's Hockey C'ship: Punjab crush MP

Hisar (Haryana) [India], Jan 12 (ANI): Punjab produced a rich vein of form as they thrashed Madhya Pradesh 10-0 in their Pool A clash on third day of the 8th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship 2018 here on Friday.

Hockey Punjab's Sneha (13', 23', 68') scored a hat-trick for her team while Samandeep Kaur (19', 49'), Chewang Tamang (32', 59') and captain Mitali (46', 57') scored a brace each, with Sukhpreet Kaur (52') scored one goal in their victory.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy also won their Pool B match against Chhattisgarh Hockey with a score-line of 22-0.

Sneha Singh scored seven goals (6', 12', 29', 34', 62', 65', 69') in Madhya Pradesh's emphatic win while Yogita Verma also scored six (7', 9', 27', 57', 58', 61'). Rest of the goals were scored by Sanskriti Sarwan (2', 17', 46'), captain Sadhna Sengar (14', 56', 67'), Divya Yadav (32'), Soniya Kumre (44') and Priyanka Yadav (70').

In a Pool C match, Hockey Him lost to Gangpur-Odisha by a margin of 1-4. Scores were level for both the teams at half-time at 1-1 but it was Hockey Gangpur-Odisha who emerged as the victors with their three goals in the second half. Him scored the first goal of the match in the 9th minute through Tannu but Gangpur-Odisha were helped to the victory by goals from Sunita Xaxa (15'), Manisha Oram (48'), Aten Topno (52') and Philicia (64').

In Pool D, Chandigarh and Sports Authority of India played out a goalless draw to share the points on the day. Both the teams had earlier won their first matches of the competition as Sports Authority of India had beaten Odisha 2-0 and Chandigarh had defeated Bihar emphatically with a score-line of 14-0. There were a lot of chances for both the teams in their second match but neither could produce the finish to score a goal. The draw for both the teams means that they are in a good position to qualify for the next round with four points from two matches.

In another Pool D encounter, Bhopal registered their first win in their opening match as they beat Bihar 3-1. A first-half brace from K Lanleibi Chanu (9', 35') and a goal from Shivani Gautam in the 34th minute were enough for Bhopal to register the victory as Bihar lost their second consecutive match of the competition. It was Pooja Kumari who scored the consolation goal for Hockey Bihar in their 1-3 loss.(ANI)
