Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 25 (ANI): China's women's hockey team arrived in Ranchi on Wednesday for the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023.
Anticipation is building among hockey fans as the Women's Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi begins on October 27. The tournament will continue till November 5.
The tournament promises intense battles as six teams - India, Thailand, Korea, China, Malaysia, and Japan will go head-to-head against each other. The Chinese women's team arrived just two days before their opening clash against South Korea on the opening day.
Korea, the most successful team in the history of the Women's Asian Champions Trophy, has set its sights on extending its domination in the competition and rewriting history.
As China has already qualified for the Paris Olympics, the Head Coach of the Chinese Women's Hockey team, Alyson Annan talked about the expectations from the tournament.
"Thank you for the warm welcome. It is good to be here so we really appreciate this. We are here to play, grow and learn. All the teams are very good."
Ou Zixia, Captain of the Chinese Women's Hockey team said Indian team is a strong team. "We will try to play our best in all the games."
China will face a tough opponent in the first match as South Korea have an impressive track record that includes three championship victories in 2010, 2011, and 2018, as well as a runner-up finish in 2021. They are unequivocally one of the strongest title contenders in the tournament.
South Korea clinched the silver medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. China emerged victorious 2-0 to clinch the gold medal. (ANI)
