Imphal [Manipur], January 7 (ANI): In a move to nurture football in Manipur, budding players are getting trained by a German coach.

To make young players contend at the national and international level, a month-long PRO Football Coaching camp is underway at Sainik School in Imphal, where some 250 boys and girls between 10-14 years are undergoing vigorous training.

The kids are thrilled as Sainik School has joined hands with German Football Academy to enhance their confidence and skills in soccer.

Benjamin Diehl, a German coach has been called in to share the latest techniques of the game with the youngsters.

"My favorite things are coordination, skill for scoring and giving passes, which is important for the kids and most importantly to develop their self-confidence with the ball", said Benjamin Diehl, Former FC Bayern Munich coach.

Schools, academies and the Sports Authority of India are helping to strengthen the soccer culture in Manipur and other northeastern states.

The trend has gained momentum after many players from Manipur represented the country at FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

Manipur is known for its passion for football and, the youngsters here have outstanding skills, stamina, and a physique.

"After the Under 17 World Cup that was held in India recently people in our state are very fond of football. Infect, there were right participants from Manipur in the Under 17 World Cup and one was from our school only," said Tomba Singh, Convenor and Football Coaching Camp.(ANI)
