Johannesburg [South Africa], July 21 (ANI): The Indian women's team lost to Brazil in the ongoing Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) U- 17 football tournament here on Saturday.
After starting the match on an attacking note, the Indian team was thrashed 5-0 by the Brazilian side.
Brazil put in some amazing effort after initially losing the grip over the match and scored four goals in the second half of the clash.
Indians had a wonderful opportunity to take a lead in the 8th minute of the match when team's forward Soumya Guguloth burst onto goal with only the opposition goalkeeper to beat. But she missed the shot by hitting it way too wide of the goal post.
It was Indian goalkeeper Archana Arumugam who kept the team in the game by making some fantastic saves in the first half of the match. But Brazil succeeded in taking lead in the 40th minute.
The half-time scoreline read 1-0 in Brazil's favour.
The Brazil team came back strongly in the second half and possessed the ball for most of the time. In the 65th minute, they doubled their lead and scored back to back goals in 80th and 81st minute to make the scoreline read 4-0.
In another blow to the Indian team, they scored again in the 83rd minute making it 5-0 in the favour of Brazil.
India are slated to play their next match against China on July 22. (ANI)
