Senegal vs Poland

Moscow [Russia], June 19 (ANI): In yet another shocker of the day, 27th ranked Senegal defeated eighth-ranked Poland 2-1 in their opening match of Group H at the ongoing 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup at the Spartak Stadium here on Tuesday.
This came after 61st ranked Japan edged past 16th ranked Colombia 2-1 from the same group earlier in the day.
An own goal from Thiago Cionek in the 37th minute and a quick counter-attack goal from M'Baye Niang in the 60th minute gave Senegal the 2-0 lead in the game, which witnessed plenty of poor mistakes by the Poland side.
Poland did manage to pull one goal back through Grzegorz Krychowiak in the 86th minute, but it was late for the European team to find an equaliser.
A slow start saw neither side gain control of the midfield until Senegal had the first clear chance in the 18th minute.
The African side, which shocked France on their World Cup bow in 2002, gradually started to dominate the game.
Thanks to a number of mistakes and poor passes by Poland, Senegal gradually took over and got a 2-0 lead.
Things got boiled up towards the end when Krychowiak hit the first goal for Poland in the 86th minute. Following that, various efforts were made by the side to find an equaliser.
However, that never happened, and Senegal easily managed a 2-1 win.
Now, Poland will need to make amends when they take on Colombia on June 24. (ANI)
