Capetown [South Africa], Sep 25 (ANI): After having served franchise cricket team, Cape Cobras for over three years, South Africa all-rounder Wayne Parnell has ended his stint with the squad.
The development came after Parnell signed a Kolpak deal with Worcestershire County Cricket Club, effectively bringing his international career to an end.
Reflecting on the same, Cape Cobra chief executive, Nabeal Dien stated that relieving Parnell of the squad was a tough decision as he was a senior and successful member of the team.
"The board of the Cape Cobras unanimously decided to discontinue Parnell's Cobras contract. It was a tough decision, as he was a senior and successful member of the Cobras squad in the past, winning four awards at the Cobras Player Awards in 2015/2016," Sport24 quoted Dien, as saying.
"But his decision to sign Kolpak and also to participate in the Afghanistan Premier League has made him available for the Cape Cobras for a very limited period, while he would also not be available for international selection in future. We pride ourselves in being a conveyor belt for international South African players. It's part and parcel of our mandate," he added.
Parnell, who last played for South Africa in 2017 against Bangladesh, appeared in a total of 56 one-day matches for his national side scalping 94 wickets with an economy rate of 5.64. (ANI)
