U-19 WC Final: Indian blowers strike to reduce Aussies to 216

Tauranga [New Zealand], Feb 3 (ANI): Indian blowers put in an impressive performance to restrict Australia on 216, making it an achievable target for their side, in the Under-19 World Cup final being played in Mount Maunganui here on Saturday.

It was All-rounder Jonathan Merlo who emerged as the highest scorer for Australia with his magnificent 76-run innings after the Indian blowers ripped through their top-order.

Indian Right-arm pacer Ishan Porel drew the first blood when he dismissed Max Bryant on 14. It was Porel again who gave India their second wicket in the form of Jack Edwards.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who has already taken seven wickets in the tournament so far, sent back Australia skipper Jason Sangha on 13.

Merlo and Param Uppal then provided stability to the side as the two stitched a 75-run partnership.

Anukul Roy, the leading wicket-taker for India, then broke the partnership after dismissing Uppal on 34.

He then also gave India a much needed wicket of Merlo in the 45th over.

Nathan McSweeney struck 23, before getting caught on Shiva Singh's bowl.

Nagarkoti, Porel, Shiva and Roy shared two wickets each while Mavi took one.

Three-time champions India will now come to chase the 217-run target with opener and skipper Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra. (ANI)
