New Delhi [India], March 10 (ANI): Congress MP and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla praised Team India and congratulated them for their all-round performance in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy which took place in Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A swift half-century from skipper Rohit Sharma, a fine knock by Shreyas Iyer, and good spells from spinners, in particular Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, helped an all-round India seal their third ICC Champions Trophy title, beating New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai on Sunday.
"This is a huge achievement... Our team is very strong and has a very good balance. All the players are full of confidence... We won all five matches in the Champions Trophy... This shows the strength of the team... Rohit Sharma has led very well..."
Futher, spinner Kuldeep Yadav's childhood coach, Kapil Pandey, hailed Rohit Sharma's leadership and said that he used the spinners very well in the middle overs.
"This is a huge victory...Not just an individual player but the entire team together played an important role in securing this victory. I give credit to Rohit Sharma for this plan, which led Team India to win. The way he used spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun in the middle overs was significant. When I spoke to Kuldeep before the match, I told him to bowl with a relaxed mind. All four spinners bowled very well," Kapil Pandey said.
On India winning the Champions Trophy 2025 title, NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar said, "All the players played well. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Shami were criticised, but they played as Indians, and we won. Some people brought politics into this but this should not be done. The team is a team, let it remain as it is."
On India's winning the Champions Trophy 2025 title, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also expressed his views.
"...The host may be Pakistan, but the winner is Hindustan...Salute to Rohit Sharma's team, to Virat's greatness, and to the entire team... The Indian cricket team has performed as per India's expectations. Many congratulations to them..." Manoj Tiwari said.
Men in Blue skipper Rohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance in the championship game. He played an exceptional knock of 76 runs from 83 balls, which was laced with seven boundaries and three maximums.
Kiwis opener Rachin Ravindra claimed the Golden Bat for most runs and 'Player of the Tournament' for his scintillating performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In four matches, Rachin made 263 runs at an average of 65.75, with a strike rate of 106.47, with two centuries- against Bangladesh in the league stage and South Africa in the semifinal. He also picked up three crucial wickets across these matches. In the final, he made a quickfire 37 in 29 balls, with four boundaries and a six that gave his team a fine start.
New Zealand right-arm seamer Matt Henry finished as the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy, which took place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Henry finished the tournament with a total of 10 wickets in the four matches at an average of 16.70 with one fifer against India in the group stage. (ANI)
