Johannesburg [South Africa], May 31 (ANI): South Africa opening batter Tazmin Brits is set to make an international comeback after suffering a meniscus rupture and damaged ligament in her left knee in April.
Brits has been named to the ODI and Test squads for next month's match against India, and she will be assessed for fitness before the team departs to determine her participation in the three ODIs and one Test.
Brits sustained the injury on April 9, the same day she achieved her second ODI century of the season against Sri Lanka and underwent surgery the following week. She was supposed to be ready to play by the end of May, and her recovery is progressing well thus far.
Laura Wolvaardt will lead the ODI and Test teams on this tour. The Proteas earned a huge boost with the return of seasoned all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase and wicketkeeper Route Badgers.
Lara Goodall, Chloe Tyron, and Ayanda Hlubi are among the nationally contracted players missing out due to injuries.
The team will convene for a pre-tour camp in Tshwane from June 4 to June 8, before travelling to India on June 8. The tour, which will be part of the ICC Women's Championship in 2022-25, will begin with a three-match ODI series.
Proteas Women's interim head coach Dillon Du Preez stated that the team was looking forward to this tour, which will serve as preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year.
"Everyone's excited and looking forward to the tour to India. So far, preparation has been great. We had a big focus on options against spin and it was good to see the buy-in from the team," Du Preez said as quoted by ICC.
"We also have new management involved, so this would be a great opportunity for them to find their feet before we come back and start our preparation for the [T20] World Cup," Du Preez added.
