Harare [Zimbabwe], June 21 (ANI): Former skippers Brendan Taylor and Graeme Cremer have been left out of the Zimbabwe T20I squad for the tri-series, featuring Australia and Pakistan, beginning July 1 at Harare Sports Club.
Besides Taylor and Cremer, veterans Sean Williams and Craig Ervine have also been dropped from the 22-member Zimbabwe training squad for the triangular series.
Batsman Sikandar Raza, who is all set to feature in the concurrent Global T20 tournament in Canada against suspended former Australian captain Steve Smith and former vice-captain David Warner, could not find a place for the upcoming T20I tri-series.
Elton Chigumbura, who last represented his country in November 2016 and made more than 250 international appearances for Zimbabwe, has been selected in the training squad, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Reflecting on the squad, Zimbabwe Cricket said, "The selectors picked the squad from the players who participated in the 20-over tournament involving two local sides, the Zimbabwe Select and Board XI, and Kenya. Players involved in competitive cricket abroad who made themselves available for selection were also considered."
The squad, which will be later trimmed to 15, will get together for a training camp on Wednesday, under the supervision of new head coach Lalchand Rajput.
The Zimbabwe training squad is as follows:
Cephas Zhuwao, Chamu Chibhabha, Hamilton Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Tarisai Musakanda, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Elton Chigumbura, Malcolm Waller, Brian Chari, Peter Moor, Donald Tiripano, Wellington Masakadza, Tendai Chisoro, Blessing Muzarabani, Ryan Murray, Kyle Jarvis, Chris Mpofu, Prince Masvaure, John Nyumbu, Ryan Burl, Brandon Mavuta, Rugare Magarira.(ANI)
