Sydney [Australia], Jan 6 (ANI): Kuldeep Yadav starred once again with the ball to help India restrict Australia to 300 runs on Day 4 of the fourth Test here at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday.
Kuldeep ended the first innings with a five-for while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each, and Jasprit Bumrah got a piece.
India enjoyed their command as the morning session was washed out due to persistent drizzle and bad light. The visitors took the new ball as soon as the second session started.
Pat Cummins and Peter Handscomb, who were holding the crease for the hosts on the third day, resumed the first innings for Australia. To get an early breakthrough, Shami dismissed Cummins (25) on the third delivery with the new ball.
Bumrah took his first wicket of the match in the name of Handscomb (37). Australia's last recognised batsman, Nathan Lyon was too sent back to the pavilion as ace spinner Kuldeep trapped Lyon for a duck.
After a brief fightback from Mitchell Starc (29*) and Josh Hazlewood (21), Kuldeep again came into the picture and ended a 42-run stand. The spinner picked up his fifth wicket of the match in the name of Hazlewood. India wrapped up Australia's first innings for 300 and enforced the follow-on, becoming the first team to do so in Australia in 31 years.
In their second innings, the hosts could manage to add only 6 runs as the bad light and subsequent drizzle halted the play again and forced early stumps.
Australia are 316 runs behind with all their ten wickets in hand. Usman Khawaja and Marcus Harris are holding the crease for the hosts on 4 and 2 respectively. (ANI)
