Sourav Ganguly turns 49, Sehwag, Laxman lead wishes for BCCI President

Former India captain and President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly, congratulated Team India after their title-winning campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, praising the side for steadily improving their performance as the tournament progressed.

Samson had a redemption story to remember, as he went from not being a part of the playing eleven in the start and having a frustratingly inconsistent form, he went on to play three of the most important innings of his career when it mattered the most, producing gems right from the virtual quarterfinal to the title clash against New Zealand. Tharoor also wished Samson for a new beginning in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a franchise he was traded to after years of association with Rajasthan Royals.

Team India made it back-to-back in the T20 World Cup, beating New Zealand by 96 runs to secure their third T20 World Cup title, a record-breaking one. With this, they have become the first-ever team to defend the title and also win it as a home side.

It was another dominant performance for Team India as top-order exploits from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan and brilliant spells from Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah helped Team India become the first home nation to win the T20 World Cup title, beating New Zealand by 96 runs at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, at the same venue where India had lost the ICC Cricket World Cup title in 2023 after a 10-match dominant run.

While Men in Blue and their fans could get flashbacks of the Ahmedabad heartbreak against Australia, which stopped India's dominant 10-match win streak courtesy tactical masterclass of skipper Pat Cummins and a brutal hammering by Travis Head, the baggage of negativity will come down and everyone will find some comfort in team's most recent wins against New Zealand and the fact their country is on a winning run across the men's, women's and age-group cricket. The baggage will feel a little lighter.
