Setback for Proteas as `injured` de Kock ruled out

Johannesburg [South Africa]: South African left-handed batsman Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the remainder of the six-match ODI series and subsequent three-match T20I series against India due to wrist injury.

The wicketkeeper-batsman sustained an injury on the left wrist during South Africa's nine-wicket defeat against the Virat Kohli-led side in the second ODI at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

Confirming the news, South Africa's team manager, Mohammed Moosajee informed that De Kock would now require at least two to four weeks to recover.

"Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort. Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between two-four weeks to heal, which subsequently rules him out of the remainder of the ODI and T20 series against India," Moosajee quoted Sport24, as saying.

Moosajee further revealed that the Cricket South Africa (CSA) medical team would aim to have him ready for the four-match Test series against Australia, beginning March 1 at Kingsmead.

The national selectors, however, have chosen to not name De Kock's replacement in the squad.

South Africa are currently trailing 0-2 in the ODI series against India. The two sides will now square off in the third match on February 7 at Newland Stadium. (ANI)
