Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Feb 21: After Indian spinner Poonam Yadav took four wickets and guided her team to a victory over Australia in the opening match of Women's T20 World Cup, her mother Munni Devi said she is proud of her daughter's performance.
"India batting first scored a below-par score and the Australian team started well. At first, I was nervous but the team made a comeback later in the game. I am proud of Poonam Yadav who took four wickets in the game. All the girls played well and their effort ensured India's victory," Munni Devi told ANI on Friday.
Poonam took four wickets as India defeated the Kangaroos by 17 runs at Sydney Showground Stadium in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup.
Poonam's brother, Ashu congratulated the Indian team for the victory and said that the whole family is proud of Poonam's performance.
He hoped that her sister delivers such spells in the upcoming games for the side.
"It was a great match for the Indian team. Today, she bowled well and won the player of the match award. I pray to God that she performs well and guides the team to victory. The whole family is proud of her achievement," he added.
Alyssa Healy top-scored for Australia as she played a knock of 51 runs. But with her dismissal, India clawed their way back into the contest and did not allow Australia to take away the game.
Earlier, Deepti Sharma's unbeaten knock of 49 runs enabled India to post 132/4 in the allotted twenty overs.
India will next take on Bangladesh on February 24. (ANI)
