New Delhi [India], Oct 3 (ANI): Indian right-hand batsman Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his Test debut after being named in the 12-member national squad for the opening match of the two-match series against West Indies, beginning October 4 in Rajkot.
While Shaw was rewarded for his impressive performance in the domestic circuit, other young players including Mayank Agarwal, Mohammed Siraj, and Hanuma Vihari failed to make it to the Indian Test squad.
Shaw has appeared in a total of 14-first-class games, scoring 1,418 runs with an impressive average of 56.72.
In the bowling department, India have named six bowlers-- Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur-- for the first Test.
While Ashwin, Shami, Yadav, and Jadeja will most probably get the nod to play in the opening match, India will have to choose between an extra seamer, Shardul Thakur, and an extra spinner, Kuldeep Yadav.
The Indian Test squad for the Rajkot Test is as follows:
Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur. (ANI)
