Mohali (Punjab) [India], Feb 18 (ANI): In the aftermath of Pulwama terror attack, Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has removed the photos of Pakistan cricketers from the Mohali Stadium’s picture gallery.
Speaking to ANI on Monday, PCA Treasurer Ajay Tyagi said: “The reason behind this step is our sentiments. It is our symbolic way of showing anger against the terrorist attack.”
“It is our humble effort. Whatever people can do individually, they must do. Some cricketers have pledged to help the families of martyrs of CRPF forces,” he said.
Photos taken during the 2011 world cup semi-final between India and Pakistan, individual pictures including the likes of Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram have been removed.
When asked whether sporting relations should continue with the neighbours, Tyagi said: “It is the government’s decision. Otherwise also, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral series. So, whatever is instructed, the association will work accordingly.”
Earlier, Cricket Club of India (CCI) had covered the portrait of Imran Khan at its Brabourne stadium headquarters in Mumbai.
Secretary Suresh Bafna said that the step was their way of condemning the barbaric attack on their security personnel.
Around 40 CRPF personnel were killed in a deadly terror attack on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on February 14. Soon after the attack, Pakistan-based terror group, Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed the responsibility for the attack and said it was carried out by its suicide bomber. (ANI)
