London [UK], September 6 (ANI): Australian pacer Mitch Claydon has been suspended by English county Sussex for allegedly applying hand sanitiser on the cricket ball.
As a result of this, Claydon will not be a part of the 14-member Sussex squad for the upcoming match against Surrey in the Bob Willis Trophy.
"Mitch Claydon is suspended pending the outcome of an ECB allegation of placing hand sanitiser on the ball in our match against Middlesex. There will be no further comment at this stage," Sussex said in an official statement.
It is being alleged that Claydon had applied hand sanitiser on the ball last month during Sussex's match against Middlesex in the Bob Willis Trophy.
In that particular match, Claydon had managed to scalp three wickets.
The use of saliva on the cricket ball is already suspended as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus.
For the upcoming match against Surrey, David Wiese will be available for selection for Sussex following his return from South Africa.
The 16-year-old James Coles is also named in Sussex's first-team squad for the second time in his fledgeling career and 19-year-old Ali Orr is included for the first time. (ANI)
