NZ women’s coach Haidee Tiffen ‘not in right frame of mind’ for Australia tour

London [UK], Feb 14 (ANI): New Zealand women’s cricket team coach Haidee Tiffen has requested a leave of absence as she thinks that she is “not in right frame of mind” to travel with the team for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia.
The development came in the backdrop of New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) review of team’s World T20 campaign which recommended the coaching and support staff roles to be advertised at the end of the current contracts.
“I just want to do what's best for the team. The review was fairly confronting and challenging and I can't really imagine being in the right frame of mind to help this side during the upcoming Rose Bowl series,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Tiffen, as saying.
“I love the players; I love the team and I love the job - but for everyone's sake I think this is the best course of action at the moment,” she added.
New Zealand had suffered an ouster from the World T20 tournament at the group stage. Recently, they lost their home ODI series against India but bounced back with a clean sweep in the T20 series.
Head of high performance Bryan Stronach said that they totally respect Tiffen's decision and that they “will work through this with her”.
“We totally respect her position and will work through this with her. The high performance environment is an extremely challenging one and the most important thing we can do right now is to make sure we support Haidee,” Stronach said.
New Zealand are slated to play their first ODI against Australia on February 22 followed by second and third match on February 24 and March 3, respectively. (ANI)
