New Delhi [India], Feb 11 (ANI): Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Navin Chawla, has been appointed as the Electoral Officer of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
Chawla, who is a retired Civil Servant and has served as 16th Chief Election Commissioner of India, will conduct the elections of President and Treasurer of DDCA.
"Navin Chawla is hereby appointed as the Electoral Officer to conduct the Elections of President and Treasurer of DDCA," said DDCA ombudsman Justice Deepak Verma, in a letter to DDCA officials.
Verma, in the letter, said that he had asked DDCA officials, on February 2, to submit a list of individuals who have been a member of the Election Commission of India within three days and one of them was to be selected to become the Electoral Officer.
However, even after eight days, the DDCA Officials neither sent the list nor provided any justification for such delay.
"Vide my Order dated 02.02.2020, I had directed you (DDCA Officials) to submit/furnish before me, a list of individuals who had been a member of the Election Commission of India within 3 days from the date of the said order... one person out of the said list was to be selected to become the Electoral Officer," Verma said.
"It is with deep regret, I have to inform that, 8 days have now passed since the said Order had been circulated and till date the above-mentioned direction has not been complied with, by the DDCA Officials. DDCA Officials have neither sent the list as asked for, nor have they sent any justification for such delay," it added.
Verma then said he sent a mail to Chawla to ask him if he would be available and willing to act as the Electoral Officer. After that, Verma had a telephonic conversation with Chawla and the latter agreed to act as the Electoral Officer. (ANI)
