Nagpur Test: Kohli corners Lankans on Day 3

Nagpur [India], Nov 26 (ANI): As skipper Virat Kohli hit his fifth double century and Rohit Sharma enjoyed the feeling of Test ton after a four-year-wait, head coach Ravi Shastri called them off at 610/6 with a lead of 405 runs on Day three of second Test against the Lankan lions.

The third day of the Nagpur Test was all about Kohli, as the captain first scored his 19th Test century and then added yet another record to his decorated cricket book by slamming the fifth double hundred of his career.

India resumed the day with Kohli batting along with Cheteshwar Pujara.

The duo stitched a good 183 for the side Dasun Shanaka rattled Pujara's stumps to send him back for 143.

Kohli was joined by Ajinkya Rahane for a short period as the right-handed batsman departed for just 2 after handing out a catch to Dimuth Karunaratne on Thisara Perera's ball.

However, the scoreboard kept on ticking for the Indian side, as Kohli built yet another 150-run partnership with Rohit Sharma to inch closer to his double hundred.

It was in the 167th over that the game took its peak as the crowd was awaiting a double ton from the skipper and the 29-year-old did not disappoint them.

Kohli equaled Brian Lara, with the most number of double tons (5) as a Test captain and soon departed the ground with an exhausting 213.

Rohit, in his 90s, was then accompanied by Ravichandran Ashwin, but not for long as the right-handed bowler could not bear a yorker from Dilruwan Perera and departed for 5.

As soon as Rohit celebrated his century, India called at 610/6.

Sri Lanka, trailing behind by a massive 384 runs, came to bat in the second innings, the Islanders faced an early jolt with the wicket of Samarawickrama on Ishant Sharma's ball.

The tourists now stand at 21/1 at stumps, trailing by 384 runs. (ANI)
