Melbourne [Australia], Dec 5 (ANI): After working with the country's next generation at the Under-19 Male National Championships, former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson on Wednesday stated that he wants to explore his coaching passion.
The 37-year-old, who is the fifth-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Test history, told Cricket Australia: "Now that I have fully finished playing cricket, it is (coaching) something I can probably focus on a bit more now, and I guess it is just putting a plan in place."
"I'll be in contact with Head Coach of the National Performance Program, Troy Cooley at CA and work with those guys and try to get a plan in place and try to get as much coaching under my belt because I don't know if I'm going to be a good coach or not," Johnson added, who spent the first two rounds of the U-19 tournament with the CA XI earlier on Monday and Tuesday.
After working alongside CA XI coach Ryan Harris and his assistant Chris Rogers, Johnson said: "I know I have got a lot of information; I know I have been through a lot through my career, but it is about learning how to be a coach now. To be able to talk and get your message across to young kids, I think that is really important."
"I see myself wanting to help the game, wanting to get it better because I love the game. So, if I can help in some way and become a coach and do it well, that would be great," he added.
Johnson, who retired from all forms of professional cricket earlier in August, also gave his prediction that Australia would prevail 2-1 victory over India in the upcoming four-Test match series, beginning from December 6 in Adelaide. (ANI)
