Lanka defeat India by 7 wickets after hosts' horror show with bat

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Dec 10 (ANI): Sri Lanka defeated India by seven wickets in the series opener after the hosts were bundled up for just 112, here at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA).

With this win, Sri Lanka have ended their losing streak of 12 matches and have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Sri Lanka lost two early wickets of Danushka Gunathilaka (1) and Lahiru Thirimanne for duck but then Upul Tharanga and Angelo Mathews added a 46-run partnership for the third wicket to bail Sri Lanka out of the trouble.

However, Hardik Pandya removed Tharanga for one run short in half-century, but then Niroshan Dickwella contributed 26 runs to take Sri Lanka towards win.

Earlier, being asked to bat first, the Indian top order failed to perform extravagantly.

Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni played the only saving grace for India as others fell like a deck of cards.

Dhoni was the only batsman to standout with a fighting 65 and push India above a ton.

Other than Kuldeep Yadav's score of 19 and Hardika Pandya's cheap 10, no other batsman could manage reach double figures.

Suranga Lakmal was the standout bowler with 4 for 13. Angelo Mathews was particularly difficult to get away. Nuwan Pradeep took 2 for 37.

Sri Lanka's captain Thisara Perera and spinners Akila Dananjaya and Sachith Pathirana took a wicket apiece.

For India Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya took one wicket each. (ANI)
