Khawaja's 171 take Aussies to 479/4 on Day 3

Sydney [Australia], January 6 (ANI): Australia's Usman Khawaja extended his overnight score of 91 to 171 to help the hosts close the third day of the final Ashes Test on 479 for the loss of four wickets, leading England by 133 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground, here on Saturday.

After resuming the day at 193 Australia lost just two wickets all day.

Skipper Steve Smith missed out on a century, falling for 83.

Khawaja made England toil with 171 and celebrated his first Ashes hundred and his first Test century at the SCG.

It was also his first century since November 2016.

Enroute to 479, Shaun Marsh then hurried to 98 not out, accompanied by brother Mitchell Marsh batting on 63.

Smith was dismissed by Moeen Ali, while Mason Crane claimed Khawaja.

Meanwhile, players of the two teams donned pink caps in aid of the McGrath Foundation, a breast cancer charity founded by former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath in memory of his late wife Jane.

The Sydney Cricket Ground was also bathed in the pink on the day.(ANI)
