London [UK], August 24 (ANI): England have recalled right-hand batsman James Vince in their 14-member squad for the upcoming fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series against India, beginning August 30 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
Vince is likely to replace wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, who is currently recovering from a fractured finger.
While confirming Vince's inclusion in the team, England coach Ed Smith said that it is the best time to introduce the former in the Test squad as he is in a good and confident frame of mind at the moment.
"The selection panel felt this was the right time to reintroduce James Vince to the Test squad. James will provide cover in case Jonny Bairstow's fractured finger prevents him playing in the fourth Test match," ESPNcricinfo.com quoted Smith, as saying.
"James returns to the England set-up in confident form and scoring runs. He has been in excellent form for Hampshire in the Specsavers County Championship, with 847 runs at 56.46, including 74 and 147 this week," he added.
Vince has played a total of 13 Tests for England, scoring 548 runs at an average of 24.91.
England are currently leading the five-match Test series against India 2-1.
The revised England squad is as follows:
Joe Root (capt), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Sam Curran, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, James Vince, Chris Woakes. (ANI)
