Dubai [UAE], Mar 22 (ANI): West Indies and Bangladesh will travel to Ireland for a one-day international tri-series, beginning May 5 ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.
For West Indies and Bangladesh, the series will serve as a preparation for the 50-over tournament, scheduled to take place in England from May 30 to July 14. West Indies will start their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on May 31, while Bangladesh will play their opening game on June 2 against South Africa.
The tri-series will involve a double round-robin phase followed by the final. The matches will be hosted between the three venues of Castle Avenue, Clontarf and Malahide, ICC reported.
Meanwhile, West Indies players comprising Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Oshane Thomas, Nicholas Pooran, Evin Lewis and Carlos Brathwaite and Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh are set to compete in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The players will be considered for selection only if their respective IPL teams fail to make it to the playoffs, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Following is the schedule for the tri-series:
May 5: Ireland v West Indies, Clontarf
May 7: West Indies v Bangladesh, Clontarf
May 9: Ireland v Bangladesh, Malahide
May 11: Ireland v West Indies, Malahide
May 13: West Indies v Bangladesh, Malahide
May 15: Ireland v Bangladesh, Clontarf
May 17: Final, Malahide
The tri-series will help West Indies test their bench strength and prepare rookies for English conditions ahead of the World Cup. (ANI)
